About Us

Margaretha

Margaretha's interest started with a small herb garden for household needs.

Bäckdalen's tomato assortment is our pride, ecologically grown in soil, slowly grown, the tomatoes taste like tomatoes, we sow in February, start harvesting in July. and with a little luck with the weather, we can harvest the last tomatoes in October. Herbs and tomatoes are sold during the summer months in our greenhouse.

We warmly welcome you to our garden café Orangeriet. Here we would like to offer you typical "Swedish fika" with homemade cakes and buns, homemade juice and freshly brewed coffee with "påtår".

Anders

Anders' main interest is plants and food and the common thread in the business. At the back you will find a small chicken coop with a rooster and his hens that lay beautiful brown eggs. The eggs are used in our cakes and buns.

We have lived and farmed organically for over 35 years in the cozy little village of Hallavara, near the nature reserve Hovs Hallar which is located at the furthest point of the Bjäre peninsula.

Our passion is to grow many different varieties of fresh herbs, tomatoes, chilies, cucumbers, beans and salads. Most of it is grown in the old wooden greenhouses from a bygone era, but we also have an outdoor garden that we call "the back". The harvest from our crops primarily goes to the café, it is also always available for purchase in our farm shop

History

In 1989, Anders and Margaretha took over Bäckdalens Handelsträdgården, which was previously called Hallavara Handelsträdgården. The garden center dates back to 1947 and tomatoes and seedlings were grown here. Under Anders and Margaretha's direction, there has been a lot of rebuilding, expansion and conversion to an organic Handelsträdgården. This means that they are grown completely without artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
